Call us at 1-800-222-1222 for any poisoning emergency 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  It's free of charge and confidential.  The Poison Center is staff by registered nurses and doctors who are certified poison specialists.  We help people of all ages and in different types of situations, from young children getting into household products to seniors who may take too much or the wrong medicine.  Almost anything can be poisonous if it is used the wrong way, in the wrong amount, or by the wrong person.

Facts about the Poison Control Center:

• An "average" day includes managing more than 135 poisoned patients of all ages and taking calls form more than 200 individual callers.
• We handled more than 75,825 calls in 2009.  That is a call every 7 minutes.
• 76% of these patients were successfully managed safely and inexpensively at home.
• The estimated cost savings to Kentucky residents was $15 to $17 million per year.  This savings is more than 10 times the nanual budget for KRPC.
• Approximately 65% of our patients were children and 52% were children under six.
